About Dryer Vent Cleaning and deceptions to beware of.

Santa Clarita Dryer Vent Cleaning - Don't be deceived by imposters using our name!

The FTC enforces Truth-in-advertising laws. Some of the core rules are:

NO DECEPTION: Ads cannot make false claims, use fake pictures, or leave out facts.

CLEAR PRICING: Hidden fees, fake discounts and bait-and-switch pricing are strictly illegal.

Many websites advertise a very low price but leave out facts such as the price advertised is only a starting price to be increased pending on how long a duct is or the length of time required. This violates 2 of the truth in advertising rules. They LEAVE OUT FACTS AND BAIT AND SWITCH.

Please note: the  DBA names, Santa Clarita Dryer Vent Cleaning & SCV Dryer Vent Cleaning are registered to David Keith Osborn (owner/operator) registered with the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder's office and any other website, business or individual using these names are frauds and should NOT be patronized.

I started cleaning dryer vents part time in 1994. I started cleaning  dryer vents as a full-time business in Santa Clarita in 2008. Over the  years I have had 2 assistants which left to go into business for  themselves. I no longer have assistants and these guys are no longer in  business. They found out the work is not as easy as it looks. It is  physically challenging and knowing your equipment is crucial. You must  know how a dryer works and what is required to effectively clean a duct.  It requires that you know, by the feeling of your brushes and rods  going through a duct is important. Many, break rods an leave brushes  logged inside a duct. One must also know how to disconnect and reconnect  the dryer. It looks easy but many jobs take longer to reconnect the  dryer than it takes to clean the duct. Leave your dryer vent cleaning to  an experienced expert. Not a fly-by-night con artist, air duct, carpet  cleaner or chimney sweep.

David's Dryer Vent Cleaning has added the name Santa Clarita Dryer Vent Cleaning, aka SCV Dryer Vent Cleaning. This was necessary to help eliminate the excessive number of out of area service request and to emphasize our commitment to the Santa Clarita Valley.  A good way to spot an imposter is if they ask you to make checks out to a name other than Santa Clarita Dryer Vent Cleaning, or the person doing the work is NOT David Osborn.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Residential & Commercial Dryer Vent Cleaning.

I don't clean air ducts (HVAC) and air duct cleaners should not clean dryer vents. I don't repair appliances,  and appliance technicians should not clean dryer vents!  Remember, the old saying "you get what you pay for" applies when dealing with cut-rate, bait and switch companies!

Receive service from a service professional, not a sales representative. Other companies offer dryer vent cleaning to get their foot in the door to up-sell you carpet cleaning, air duct cleaning or other unnecessary services. But this is not what I do, and I know the proper, thorough techniques to clean your dryer vent without damaging  your home or business.

Important Information:

I am not a handyman. I don't do home repairs or modification.  However,  recently I have had 4 customers with shoddy dryer installations done by well known retailer's installers. Three from different big name home improvement stores and one from a big box store. These delivery/installers either don't have any experience and/or know how a dryer works. They are always in a hurry and leave you with problems.

One customer didn't need a new dryer. They only needed to have the dryer duct cleaned and a new connection duct. Fortunately I was able to fix these crappie installations and helped the customers setup and maintain their new dryer. This is something the sales people or seller's installers should have done.

Dryer vent cleaning is the removal of lint, debris and or nest from the dyer exhaust duct. This is a process that should be done with the proper equipment, involving strong suction and vigorous brushing. Keeping in mind that the purpose of this task is to improve air flow, dryer performance and prevent a dryer fire. Its purpose is not appearance but performance and safety. Many people are more concerned how the washer and dryer LOOK than if the work properly and safely. Sometimes to achieve a safe and well performing connection, it may not look pretty. Homes were not built with hookups and maintenance in mind. Space is limited and machines get bigger.

If you buy a new dryer and have it delivered & installed, check the connections before they leave. Don't let them use cheap clamps or connection duct. The clamps the manufacturers provide are really bad and when over tightened, they damage the duct and leak. Be sure everything is connected properly and there are no air leaks. Be sure they install gas lines, and connection ducts which are long enough to move the dryer out far enough to access the gas shut off valve and other connections. Ducts and/or gas lines which are too short are unsafe if you need to turn off the gas or a water line.

There are many ads for cheap dryer vent cleaning. $69 or $79 for example. Don't be fooled by these ads. These prices are only for the service call or the first few feet of the duct, and the price jumps much higher by the foot after that. This tactic is to get their foot in the door to try to sell you other, unrelated or unnecessary services. Consider the cost of doing business and the low prices being offered. The fact is, anyone offering dryer vent cleaning for less than $100 is most likely going to have to sell you more in order to just break even on the job. Considering, there are many expenses involved like a vehicle to fuel and maintain, vehicle insurance, business liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, service equipment and equipment maintenance and more. They have to make up for these cost somewhere, and it will always be the customer that pays, most likely with mediocre, rushed, incomplete, sloppy work. Not only that, but they may also charge extra for everything involved in the cleaning process with no GUARANTEE! I charge a flat rate with no extra charges and a 100% satisfaction guarantee!

It is unbelievable that a so called "experienced" dryer vent cleaning company actually encourages customers to use a leaf blower to clean a dryer vent.  This just shows how little they know about the job.

Don't  be deceived by the so called "do it yourself" or “home advisor”  websites or products. They try to make it look easy, but I am frequently called to fix the problems created by this deception. You may see companies advertising dryer vent cleaning  showing a man using air duct cleaning equipment to do the job. Notice that they show a man working in what  appears to be a large room that will accommodate his large equipment. Most laundry areas/rooms are small, and this equipment will not fit in the room. I use the safest and most effective equipment designed specifically for dryer exhaust vents. Not equipment made for carpet or air duct cleaning or chimney sweeping. It also requires a much different skill set. Dryer vent cleaning is a very important maintenance task. It is not something to be taken lightly or ignored. Many companies, exploit this and use dryer vent cleaning as a foot in the door to sell product and services at highly inflated prices and  are unnecessary. On top of this, they don't know what they are doing. (I am frequently called to fix the problems they create.)

Some unethical appliance repair companies (a large home improvement store being among them) also take advantage of customers by not asking the right questions before sending a repair technician. All they have to do is ask, "did you have your dryer vent cleaned?". If your dryer is not heating or is  taking longer than normal to dry, then 90% of the time it is due to a clogged dryer vent. The appliance repair people get to your home or business and tell you to clean the dryer vent and charge for the service call.

I cannot stress this enough! I am NOT a "Jack of all trades and master of none"!  I specialize in dryer vents and will not try to sell you anything more. Too many of my customers have told me the horror stories of air vent/duct cleaners and other trades that offer dryer vent cleaning but don't know what they are doing. Air duct cleaners and others only want to sell you much, much more unnecessary services. These guys will tell you all kinds of reasons to clean your air duct, and they will sound very compelling. But most of this is only a deception!

In Southern California, If you change your a/c filter on a regular basis, you will most likely never need to have the air ducts cleaned!
